Calcium Fructoborate

Commission implementing regulation (EU) 2021/2129 will authorize the placing on the market of #calcium fructoborate as a #novel #food under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 from next December 23rd.
This substance is a calcium salt tetrahydrate of a bis(fructose) ester of boric acid in the form of a powder produced by chemical synthesis. Calcium fructoborate can only be used in #food #supplements intended for adults excluding food supplements for pregnant and lactating women. The #labelling of food supplements containing this novel food shall bear a specific #warning in order to avoid the consumption by these categories of population. The specification of calcium fructoborate should be evaluated in order to use this ingredient in food supplements furthermore since the authorization is based on proprietary #scientific evidence only the applicant is authorised for placing on the market the novel food within the Union.
